List of healthy food

By making a list of healthy food ideas before you go shopping, you will develop a strategy to help you and your family to eat healthier. A healthy food plan begins with a conscious effort before you even go shopping. This will lay the foundation for you to help create eating habits that are more nutritious.

I have found that if I start by explaining to my family how much I love them and want them to be healthy and ask them to make me accountable as well as each other, that it really helps. When you are coming up with the family grocery list (a.k.a list of healthy foods) involve the whole family and encourage them to offer input. Once they become a part of it, then they own it and are more likely to participate with a positive attitude and encourage each other.

You can get the kids involved by helping them make a list of healthy snacks. Sometimes we make bad choices because of lack of knowledge. Start with the simple question…what is a healthy snack? Let them list the ones they can think of and even look them up. We must start at home teaching our families what are healthy foods to eat.

Once you have created your family-specific list of the healthiest foods to eat, post it somewhere for the family to have as a reference. Place it in plain view on the front of the refrigerator, or your message board, or a common area as a reminder.

Use the foods listed below to help start your family's personalized healthy food lists. This is by no means complete, but will give you an example and a starting point. You will want to add your family preferences, the seasonal items, as well as cultural taste.

Make this a project for the family that will be fun!
